Youths Charged in Suburban Crime Spree

Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged three youths following an alleged spate of offending in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs earlier this month.

The boys, all from the Greater Dandenong area, were arrested on the Princes Highway in Noble Park yesterday afternoon about 5.20pm.

Police were called to the area following reports the males were acting suspiciously, and it was believed they may have been involved in several thefts from a gym nearby.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft and theft of motor vehicle from a gymnasium in Noble Park on 21 January and 26 January, along with a Springvale gymnasium on 21 January.

The teen was also interviewed and will be charged on summons in relation to four counts of attempted aggravated burglary and one count of theft of motor vehicle in Huntingdale on 17 January along with

burglary and theft of motor vehicle at a gymnasium in Clayton.

He was also charged with theft of petrol in Berwick on 22 January and theft of motor vehicle on 24 January in Narre Warren.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged on summons for four attempted aggravated burglaries and theft of motor vehicle in Huntingdale on 17 January. In addition, he will be charged on summons for theft of motor vehicle on 24 January in Narre Warren

A 12-year-old boy has been interviewed and is expected to be charged on summons for theft of motor vehicle on 24 January at Narre Warren along with handling stolen goods.

As part of the ongoing investigation detectives arrested a 13-year-old Bayside girl this morning at a Pakenham address before

charging her with burglary and theft of motor vehicle from a gymnasium in Springvale on 27 January.

She has been bailed to a appear before a children's court at a later date.

Police are investigating whether those charged were also involved in an incident on the Monash Freeway over the weekend where a stolen car crashed into another vehicle and the occupants from the stolen car fled the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
