Zeehan residents advised to leave, TAS

Tasmania Police has issued advice to residents of Zeehan living north of Nike Creek to leave now due to a bushfire in the area, Tasmania Police say.

The Lynch Hill fire north of the town could put homes at risk this afternoon.

Police are assisting people who are choosing to leave the area and they are being directed to the Evacuation Centre in Queenstown.

It is likely that Zeehan will be impacted by significant smoke and ash and visibility will become more difficult over the next few hours.

People who are elderly, infirm, or have respiratory issues, in particular, should leave.

Anyone who chooses to stay in Zeehan is asked to put their bushfire survival plan into action.

Roads into Zeehan are closed and people leaving should drive to the conditions by slowing down and putting headlights on.

Stay up-to-date about the current fire situation by tuning in to ABC Radio and checking the TFS website www.fire.tas.gov.au and the TasAlert site www.alert.tas.gov.au

Road closures are also updated on the Tasmania Police website https://www.police.tas.gov.au/community-alerts/
