Macedon Ranges Shire Council has welcomed the announcement by Member for Macedon MP, Mary-Anne Thomas, for $1.5 million for netball court upgrades and female change rooms at Kyneton Showgrounds if the Victorian Labor Party is re-elected.

The current facilities on Mollison Street are out-of-date and present a real barrier to achieving greater participation rates.

Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson said, "Investment in sporting facilities is so important for community wellbeing – encouraging residents to get active and stay healthy – and helping our local sports clubs to continue to grow."

"We want to see as many women and girls enjoying local sport because we know the potential it has to enhance both physical and mental wellbeing, so creating a positive environment and as much choice as possible is a great outcome for us," she said.

CEO, Bernie O'Sullivan said that he was excited that the commitment would mean that women and girls could continue playing the sports they enjoy and have modern facilities to match.

"Barriers such as lack of space or necessary amenities should not be the reason why people stop playing or don't start in the first place. This proposed investment would have a really positive impact on the local community," he said.

The funding will support the vision of the Draft Kyneton Showgrounds Master Plan that will ensure the precinct continues to meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

Community feedback is currently invited on the draft master plan for the showgrounds until 14 November 2022.

Eight clubs are based and regularly use the Kyneton Showground site including:

  • Kyneton Agricultural Society
  • Kyneton Horticultural Society
  • Kyneton & District Poultry Club
  • Kyneton Football Netball Club
  • Kyneton Cricket Club
  • Kyneton Little Athletics
  • Kyneton CFA
  • Kyneton Netball Association

The master plan will determine a broad vision for the showgrounds precinct and outline projects and strategies required to achieve this.
