More than $1 million of Emergency Services Levy funding has been invested in volunteer emergency services in the Shire of Toodyay, delivering major infrastructure upgrades ahead of the upcoming bushfire season.
Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan and Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM today joined the official opening of the new facilities.
The Morangup Co-located Emergency Facility has undergone a $572,000 renovation funded by the Emergency Services Levy, with $34,000 from the Shire of Toodyay.
The renovated facility, home to more than 40 Morangup Bush Fire Brigade and Toodyay State Emergency Service volunteers, is now the biggest in the region.
It features seven vehicle bays, a newly constructed communications room, training areas and upgraded kitchen and bathrooms.
The Coondle-Nunile Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade has a brand new $569,000 station featuring a two-vehicle bay design, and increased capacity for training and modern amenities.
The new station is on a major road with improved access and has the capacity for future expansion. The Shire of Toodyay also contributed $82,000 to the new station.
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:
"This $1 million investment, funded by the Emergency Services Levy, has provided the region's frontline emergency service volunteers with modern facilities that will help them now and into the future.
"This new station and renovated station have provided much-needed space for fire appliances and other vehicles as well as training rooms and office space.
"These volunteers put their community first, protecting local families and homes during bushfires and emergencies.
"They also lend a hand further afield and assisted during the Norseman Bushfire Complex in January, and their tireless efforts made a huge contribution to protecting lives and infrastructure."
