100 Countries Committed To Climate Action For Health

Tuvalu has become the 100th country to join the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH) . With the addition of Cook Islands, Malaysia and Tuvalu, the Alliance now has 100 countries and areas committed to taking climate action for health.

With 100 UN Member States committing to climate and health action and sharing knowledge, the Alliance is working towards securing and greening the future of global health. ATACH is a voluntary network of countries, areas and partners working to share knowledge, experiences, lessons learned, and tools for members to develop climate-resilient, sustainable and low-carbon health systems at the country level.

The Cook Islands, Malaysia and Tuvalu joined ATACH between July and October 2025. Countries and areas that join ATACH can make commitments to develop health systems to be climate resilient and to develop sustainable, low-carbon health systems in accordance with the COP26 Health Agreement.

All three countries are facing health and economic risks from climate change. As a rapidly growing economy with abundant natural resources, Malaysia is building resilience and sustainability, including for health. As small island developing states (SIDS), the Cook Islands and Tuvalu are particularly vulnerable to climate change. Tuvalu, the smallest Member State of WHO, has been championing climate and health for decades. All members of ATACH benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience that the platform provides.

WHO welcomes the Cook Islands, Malaysia and Tuvalu to the Alliance of now 100 countries and over 95 partners and WHO encourages all countries who have yet to join, to become members of ATACH, in order to make faster progress towards protecting their health systems and global health from the effects of climate change through local actions. This dynamic global community is collaborating to advance real action to adapt to and mitigate climate change at the country level, ensuring climate-resilient health systems and health for all.
