What started out as a small campaign to spread a little kindness has blossomed into something truly special, with more than 1,000 postcards already decorated and submitted by local children.
As part of Council's, We Are Griffith campaign, the Postcards of Kindness initiative invited school students to write uplifting messages and create colourful designs to brighten the lives of residents in Griffith's aged care facilities.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with aged care staff sharing how much the postcards have meant. "Thanks so much, the postcards have really put smiles on faces!" said Pioneers Lodge.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said he was thrilled to see the community come together in such a meaningful way.
"This initiative was about bringing joy to older residents and building connections across generations," Councillor Curran said.
"To see more than 1,000 postcards created shows just how kind and thoughtful our young people are. I'd like to thank all the schools, teachers and students who helped make this such a success."
Postcards will continue to be delivered to local nursing homes in the coming weeks, spreading cheer and reminding residents that they are valued members of the Griffith community.
Council extends thanks to all of the schools and families who participated, turning a simple idea into a powerful community-wide gesture.
