Nine people have been charged following a protest in the Sydney CBD yesterday.

A major police operation was conducted in Sydney's CBD yesterday (Monday 9 February 2026) with officers from across the metropolitan region assisted by specialist units.

Thousands of participants gathered at Town Hall and at the conclusion of the speeches, the crowd assembled on George Street indicating an intention to march.

A section of the crowd attempted to push past officers with the intention of marching, against the Public Assembly Restriction Declaration (PARD).

The crowd were issued a number of directions by police to disperse in accordance with the PARD and Major Events Act.

When participants failed to comply, officers moved to disperse the crowd, including anyone who had stopped and was blocking pedestrian access.

A number of scuffles broke out with 27 people arrested and a number taken to police stations across Sydney.

Paramedics treated a number of participants after OC spray was deployed. Five members of the public were taken to hospital for assessment while two officers were treated at the scene.

Following inquiries, police charged a number of people with assault and public order offences including:

- A 28-year-old man with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm. He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 7 today (Tuesday 10 February 2026).

- A 19-year-old man with two counts of assault police officer during public disorder cause actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 24 February 2026.

- A 31-year-old woman with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

- A 67-year-old man with behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

- A 24-year-old man with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 5 March 2026.

- A 23-year-old man with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 5 March 2026.

- A 25-year-old woman with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 5 March 2026.

- A 25-year-old man with refuse/fail to comply with direction and hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 5 March 2026.

- A 21-year-old man with throw missile at police officer executing duty no actual bodily harm. He was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 24 August 2026.

Police are in the process of issuing an additional six people with Future Court Attendance Notices (FCANs) for refuse/fail to comply with direction under Part 14 to appear before court on a later date.

Officers are continuing to investigate the actions of protestors with investigators reviewing body camera footage and social media vision from the event.
