$125 Million Pipeline For New Police Infrastructure

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is focused on providing Territory Police what they need to do the job - that's why we will deliver a new $125 million Police Infrastructure program.

Underscoring this program is a $25 million investment by the Territory Labor Government per year, for five years, giving our police the best facilities to continue on keeping the Territory safe.

The new and upgraded infrastructure will deliver modern law enforcement facilities for Territory Police now and into the future. Key areas of focus for the Police Infrastructure program will be new and upgraded Police Stations, watch houses and housing.

The Chief Minister today met officers at the Palmerston Police Station, which was delivered by the Territory Labor Government through a more than $30 million investment. The Palmerston Police Station has its own watch house and more than 200 officers use the facility.

We are also building a $11.5 million watch house in Tennant Creek, and a $19 million Peppimenarti Police complex right now and the $125 million Police Infrastructure program will deliver new projects and upgrades across the Territory.

This funding is on top of the extra 200 police officer for the Territory, upgraded communication technology and improved response times, and funding to secure the future of the Territory Safety Division.

Overall, the 2024 Budget invests an additional $570 million over five years to implement the recommendations of the Police Review and fully establish the Territory Safety Division. This will mean more police, more infrastructure, and better facilities.

Quotes attributed to Chief Minister, Eva Lawler:

"My comprehensive and common sense plan to lower crime in the Territory means we will give police the resources and support to do the job - that means more officers, new equipment and upgraded infrastructure."

"We have seen the positive impact the Palmerston Police Station has made locally and I want to see similar positive results right across Territory.

"We're showing our support to police with record funding being delivered because nothing is more important to me than lowering crime and keeping Territorians safe.

Quotes attributed to Minister for Police, Brent Potter:

"I've said it before and I will say it again, our police officers are the best in the country and they deserve the best facilities long into the future, and that is exactly what we are delivering.

"We will deliver more police on our streets, more vans on our roads and also the new and upgraded infrastructure and equipment police need to do the job."
