Australians squeezed by cost-of-living pressures are turning to online auctions for household savings, with $12 million worth of brand-new appliances, some only a model or two behind current retail lines, set to sell unreserved from just $1.
The surge of stock reflects both changing consumer behaviour and shifts in retail strategy as warehouses clear goods built up during pandemic supply chain disruptions. Major outlets are increasingly using auction platforms to move inventory quickly, while households embrace auctions as a mainstream shopping alternative.
"Every item is brand new, completely unreserved, and starts at just $1, so everything will sell," said Mr Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions. "We are seeing more families treat auctions as their first stop for whitegoods, which shows how shopping habits are shifting."
Across 11 auctions, Australians in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Western Australia will have access to ovens, dishwashers, wine fridges, robot vacuums and more from premium brands such as De'Longhi, Omega, Harbour and RGX, often at discounts of up to 80 percent.
Lloyds Auctions, which has operated for more than 20 years, reports strong growth in bidder registrations and online traffic, particularly for household essentials.
