14-year-old charged after car park spree

Detectives from Strike Force Trident have arrested and charged a 14-year-old male this week following the vandalism of several vehicles and theft of some of the vehicles’ contents.

It is alleged that on 17 June 2018, the youth scaled a fence at a Coolalinga car park and smashed the windows of a number of vehicles, searching for items to steal, Northern Territory Police say.

He allegedly then set fire to toilet rolls and hand towels in a nearby toilet block, causing smoke and fire damage to the structure.

After fleeing this location, the youth then allegedly let off a number of fire extinguishers at an apartment complex close by, before fleeing again.

He has been charged with damage to property, trespassing, stealing, arson and interfering with fire equipment. The matter will be heard in court with additional charges of aggravated unlawful entry and damage to property after a Palmerston shopping centre was broken into on Monday 2 July 2018.

He will appear in the Youth Justice Court on 11 July 2018.
