192 cannabis plants seized, man charged - Belmore

A man will face court today and 192 cannabis plants have been seized after extensive inquiries into alleged drug cultivation in Sydney's south-west.

In early July, officers attached to the Campsie Proactive Crime Team commenced inquiries into suspected drug cultivation at an address on Adelaide Street, Belmore.

About 5.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 July 2019), Campsie police, with the assistance of the South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, executed a search warrant at the address.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in the back-yard after attempting to flee.

Upon searching the property, police seized 192 cannabis plants, transformers, light shades, power boards, and light globes.

The 35-year-old man was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with use/consume/waste etc electricity without authority, cultivate cannabis – indictable quantity, and possess prohibited drug.

He was also charged with a separate count of cultivate cannabis – indictable quantity, for allegedly being involved in drug cultivation at a Narwee address in 2018.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 31 July 2019).
