200 New PSOs Boost Train Station Safety

Liberal Party Victoria

Protective Service Officers (PSOs) will be returned to local train stations to keep commuters safe under a new commitment by Jess Wilson's Liberal and Nationals team.

Under Labor, crimes against the person on train stations - including assault, robbery and stalking - increased by 74 per cent between 2021 and 2025.

However, Premier Jacinta Allan will strip PSOs from 120 train stations across Melbourne.

A future Jess Wilson-led Government will reverse this reckless decision by recruiting an additional 200 PSOs and return them to the 120 train stations the Allan Labor Government plans to cut them from.

The deployment of PSOs across Victoria's public transport system was an initiative of the former Baillieu Coalition Government and has played an important role in preventing crime and improving perceptions of safety for commuters for more than a decade.

Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "Our plan to recruit 200 additional PSOs means greater safety at every train station.

"PSOs do outstanding work to prevent crime and provide a visible safety presence on our public transport network, yet under Labor, they will be stripped from 120 train stations across Melbourne.

"Premier Jacinta Allan is refusing to tell Victorians which stations she is taking PSOs from - but under a Liberal and Nationals Government, commuters can have confidence that PSOs will be at every station, every night."

Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections, Brad Battin, said: "Victorians shouldn't face a lottery with their safety when travelling on public transport and under a Liberals and Nationals Government, they won't.

"Every Victorian deserves to feel and be safe when going about their daily life and having PSOs on every station prevents crime and provides certainty and reassurance for commuters."
