After a short hiatus ANZAC Day returns to Iluka this year with the local primary school stepping up to lead the commemoration. A total of 13towns and villages across the Clarence Valley region will hold official events on ANZAC Day. The coastal villagehas not hosted an ANZAC Day service since 2019 when the Chatsworth-Iluka RSL Sub-Branch folded and merged its members with Maclean. A dawn service will be held at the Iluka Cenotaph from 5.30am, and later the march will proceed from Iluka Public School at 10.30am with the commemoration service and wreath laying at 10.45am at the cenotaph. "Iluka Public School has taken it on because they want their kids to have that ANZAC Day experience," Maclean RSL Sub-Branch Honorary SecretaryTrevor Plymin said. Mr Plymin is looking forward to attending the services in Maclean and expects to see large numbers in attendance once again. "We're anticipating a lot more people this year and things should be back to normal after the last couple of years," he said. The traditional service at Ramornie Cenotaph will take place on Sundayprior to ANZAC Day at 10.30am, which this year coincides with Kapyong Day (24 April). |
