About the NCP

We've released our National Compliance Plan (NCP) for the 2025-26 financial year, outlining key compliance activities that support welfare, safety and pollution prevention across domestic and foreign-flagged vessels. The plan sets out our priorities and approach to help the maritime industry comply with their legal obligations.

Focus areas for 2025-26 include:

  • risk-based inspections of foreign and Australian flagged vessels
  • seafarer safety and welfare under the Maritime Labour Convention
  • domestic vessel safety
  • safe towing and flood operations for emergency service vessels
  • support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander operators
  • joint inspections with WorkSafe.

Informed by trends in safety, industry and expert advice, the NCP uses a risk-based approach to regulation to address emerging and ongoing safety issues. This helps target our efforts where they are needed most.
