The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is pleased to announce this year's Queensland Gold Medal has been awarded to Professor Gavin Nicholson FAICD.
The 2025 Gold Medal is awarded in recognition of the excellence in governance and leadership that Professor Nicholson has demonstrated throughout his career. Gavin is a highly respected figure in Australian corporate governance, known for his academic leadership, governance education, and practical advisory work.
He has provided advice on corporate governance and strategy to more than 150 listed and large public companies, government-owned corporations, statutory authorities, not-for-profit organisations and to local government.
He has co-authored widely used governance texts including Boards that Work and Reviewing Your Board; has been published extensively in the leading journals in his field; and heads several large research programs aimed at understanding how to help boards make better decisions, covering issues such as board dynamics, director accountability, and governance effectiveness.
Gavin has served on and chaired both for-profit and not-for-profit companies and currently sits on the board of the International Corporate Governance Society.
He is a Professor at QUT Business School and has been a national facilitator for the AICD's Company Directors Course for two decades in the areas of strategy, governance policy and process, and board evaluations. His work continues to inform and influence directors, academics, and governance professionals across Australia and internationally.
The AICD congratulates Professor Nicholson on receiving the 2025 Gold Medal Award, which will be presented at the Queensland Annual Dinner to be held in Brisbane on Thursday 6 November
