2025 Spring Garden Champions Announced

The City of Ryde's 2025 Spring Garden Competition winners were announced at a gala evening at Lachlan's Line Auditorium in North Ryde on 24 October.

This year's celebrated gardeners and categories are:

Front Gardens: Liz Geyer and Paul Newton

Back Gardens: Rae Roy

Courtyard, Balcony or Indoor Gardens: Dallas Grenier

Edible Gardens: CSIRO (Necva Bolucu, Brian Jin, Dai Xiang, Jiyu Chen, Aiden Lee, Sarvnaz Karimi, Shakila Tonni, Huichen Yang, Cecile Paris and Maisie Zhang)

Australian-native Gardens: Liz Geyer and Paul Newton

Habitat-friendly Gardens: Pamela Reeves

Succulent Gardens: Etty Coleman

Preschool Gardens: North Ryde Community Preschool

School Gardens: West Ryde Public School

Community Gardens: CSIRO (Necva Bolucu, Brian Jin, Dai Xiang, Jiyu Chen, Aiden Lee, Sarvnaz Karimi, Shakila Tonni, Huichen Yang, Cecile Paris and Maisie Zhang)

Commercial and Professional Gardens: Angela Thomas

Bushcare Sites: Brush Farm Park Bushcare

Best In Show - Garden of the Year: Angelina Chee and David Field

Mini categories winners: Amy Lau - Sensational Succulent; Etty Coleman – Sustainable Waste 2 Art; Conrad Kosek-Dolen - Junior Gardener; Max (pot decorating) and Aidan (seed growing) - Children's seed growing competition.

The competition was open from 1 July to 31 August 2025 and attracted an impressive 94 entries. They were expertly judged by Carmel Quill and Walter Salmon from the professional Garden Judges association over an intensive five-day period.

City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said the Spring Garden Competition has a long and proud history in the community.

"The Spring Garden Competition has been an annual favourite on our community calendar for more than 30 years," he said.

"We're proud to be one of the few councils still offering a garden competition that encourages residents to get involved, stay active and create beautiful, relaxing spaces."

Mayor Brown said the diversity of gardens showcased in the competition this year reflect the cultures and communities that make up the City.

"This competition truly brings our community together - from budding young gardeners to seasoned horticultural enthusiasts," he said.

"This year, we once again celebrate our shared passion for gardening, enjoying the outdoors and taking pride in creating vibrant, welcoming neighbourhoods."
