Goulburn Mulwaree Council is excited to reveal the winners of the 2026 Australia Day Awards, celebrating those who have made outstanding contributions to the community. This year's honourees have shown exceptional dedication, enthusiasm, and a true commitment to enhancing community life.

Rita Warleigh Named Citizen of the Year

Rita has been awarded Citizen of the Year for her volunteer work in Goulburn. From Launching the Goulburn Farmers Market to leading tree planting projects and environmental programs.

Young Citizen of the Year - Simon Walshe

Simon has been awarded Young Citizen of the Year for his contributions to the Goulburn community. He has made a difference through the youth council, volunteering, fundraising for mental health and homelessness, and participation in the Terry Campsie Mentor Program in Tonga.

Community Event of the Year - International Day of People with a Disability Goulburn

The International Day of People with a Disability Goulburn received Community Event of the Year for attracting over 700 attendees with accessible activities, a Microbusiness Stall Corner, and inclusive programming for students, families, carers, and service providers.

Junior Sportsperson of the Year - Charles Jorgensen

Charles has been named the Junior Sportsperson of the Year for in recognition of his swimming achievements, including winning state titles and setting multiple Australian multiclass records, representing Goulburn at the highest levels.

Senior Sportsperson of the Year - Makalya Jones

Makayla has been named the Senior Sportsperson of the Year for achievements in hockey, representing NSW since age 10 and captaining the NSW U21 team. She has competed in two Junior World Cups, scored three goals in three games in 2025, and played in Oceania Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
