Bland Shire Volunteer of the Year Awards - Celebrating the Quiet Heroes in Our Community
Bland Shire Council is inviting community members to recognise the incredible contribution of local volunteers through the 2026 Bland Shire Volunteer of the Year Awards.
In the Bland Shire, volunteering is not always something people put a name to. It is often found in the everyday acts of kindness that hold our communities together, whether it is helping a neighbour, lending a hand at a local event, coaching a junior sports team, or quietly giving time to support others in need.
While these actions may feel like part of everyday life, they are all forms of volunteering. They reflect the spirit of generosity, connection and care that keeps our Shire strong.
If you give your time, share your skills or help out in the Bland Shire without expecting payment in return, you are a volunteer.
Through the Bland Shire Volunteer of the Year Awards, Council is providing the community with an opportunity to formally recognise those individuals whose generosity and commitment make a real difference to others.
Think about the people around you who consistently step up, the organisers, supporters and quiet achievers who make things happen for others in our community. Often, the most deserving volunteers are those who would never put themselves forward.
Now is the opportunity to recognise them.
Who can be nominated?
Individuals who:
- Give their time willingly for the good of the community without financial gain; and
- Live within the Bland Shire.
Community members can nominate volunteers in the following categories:
- Community Volunteer
- Sporting Volunteer
- Young Volunteer (24 years and under)
All nominators must have the permission of the person they are nominating, as nominees must be aware their name, story and image may be used in promotional material as part of the awards process.
Community members are encouraged to take a moment to consider those who make a meaningful difference and nominate them for the Bland Shire Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Nominations close Friday 15 May 2026 at 5pm.
Award winners will be announced at the Volunteer Breakfast on Sunday 24 May 2026, where the Shire will come together to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible contribution of local volunteers.
For many, volunteering is simply what you do for your community, but these awards are a chance to ensure those efforts are seen, valued and celebrated
