Local artists are invited to step into the spirit of Ritual & Revelry for the return of the Western Downs Regional Artists Exhibition.

Western Downs Regional Council's highly anticipated 2026 Regional Artists' Exhibition encourages artists from all walks of life to submit works celebrating the creativity, tradition, and joy of seeking human connection through the rituals that anchor communities, cultures, and generations.

With a total prize pool of up to $3,800 up for grabs, the Ritual & Revelry exhibition promises excitement and recognition across four categories: painting, works on paper, photography and new media, and 3D works.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Cr Peter Saxelby said the annual exhibition is a signature event in the region's creative landscape and always delivers one of the region's strongest showings.

"Now celebrating its 13th consecutive year, the Regional Artists' Exhibition showcases the creative talents of our local artists and highlights why the Western Downs continues to be a standout destination for visitors seeking rich cultural tourism experiences," Cr Saxelby said.

"This year we're calling on local creatives to step into the world of contrast and connection to explore the gentle rhythms that shape our daily lives and the spirited moments that inspire joy, celebration, and community.

"Through the theme of Ritual & Revelry, the exhibition will showcase the diverse perspectives of artists across the region, capturing everything from quiet, reflective routines, to bold bursts of colour, movement, and emotion."

Cr Saxelby said there was no shortage of inspiration for participating artists under this year's theme.

"The Western Downs does ritual and revelry better than any other region," he said.

"Our region is home to some of the most unique destination events like the Chinchilla Melon Festival, Dalby's Delicious and DeLIGHTful Festival, the Tara Festival of Camels and Culture, Jandowae Timbertown Festival, and the Miles Back to the Bush Festival, providing great inspiration for entries under the Ritual & Revelry theme.

"Whether you're inspired by long‑held personal rituals or moments of pure revelry, the 2026 theme offers immense creative freedom, and Council encourages both emerging and established artists to participate."

Submissions open on Friday 6 February, with artists encouraged to submit works across a range of mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, and digital art.
