21,000 New Station Car Parks Delivered

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

More than 21,000 new and upgraded car parking spaces at train stations across Melbourne and regional Victoria have now been delivered thanks to funding from the Albanese and Allan Labor governments.

These parking spaces will provide people in Melbourne's outer suburbs and some of Australia's fastest growing communities easier and safer access to public transport.

The milestone was reached with the opening of a new car park at Watergardens Station, in Melbourne's north-west, meaning local communities will enjoy less street congestion and better access to their local train station.

The 485 new car spaces at Watergardens will make catching the train easier for the thousands of people who use the station every day - with the car park also including 26 accessible spaces and 70 new bicycle spaces, with a secure Parkiteer cage for 26 bicycles.

This investment has been delivered through the Allan Labor Government's Car Parks for Commuters program, with support from the Australian Government and local councils.

The program has delivered station car parks at 51 stations across Melbourne and regional Victoria - including 750 new spaces at Pakenham and East Pakenham, 500 spaces and a new eight-bay bus interchange at Tarneit and 500 car parks at Frankston.

The program has also delivered 390 accessible spaces, 15 secure Parkiteer bicycle cages, more than 700 bicycle hoops, two bus interchanges, and upgrades to CCTV and lighting - making it easier and safer for people to catch the train.
