$350K Seized in Traffic Stop, Man Charged in Riverina

A man has been charged after more than $350,000 cash was seized during a traffic stop in the state's Riverina.

Officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol were conducting random mobile testing around 1.15pm yesterday ( Sunday 24 May 2026), on the Hume Highway, Tumblong, about 15km south-east of Gundagai, when they stopped a car travelling north for the purpose of a random test.

They subjected the 23-year-old driver to a roadside breath and drug test, which returned a negative result.

Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found a plastic shopping bag containing $350,110 cash.

The Victorian man was arrested and taken to Gundagai Police Station where he was charged with deal with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime greater than $5000.

He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 5 today ( Monday 25 May 2026).
