38 Vietnamese citizens removed from Australia

38 Vietnamese nationals were removed from Australia by charter flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Tuesday 8 September 2020. The detainees were removed from Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Of the 38 detainees, 14 had overstayed their visa and 24 had their visas cancelled, with 10 being deemed high risk.

ABF Commander Field Operations, Ben Biddington, said the removal of these non-citizens to Vietnam demonstrated the Australian Border Force's (ABF) continued resolve to remove non-citizens who do not comply with their visa conditions.

"Non-citizens who are found to not meet character requirements, and whose visas are cancelled, are not entitled to remain in Australia," Commander Biddington said.

"Non-citizens who are unlawfully in Australia, and who have no entitlement to remain, will be removed".
