39th Governor of NSW welcomed at official swearing-in ceremony

Premier Gladys Berejiklian today officially welcomed the new Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, at a ceremony at Sydney's Government House.

Her Excellency received an Indigenous welcome to Government House Sydney before being sworn in as the 39th Governor of New South Wales.

Ms Berejiklian said Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley is an exceptional Australian who will serve the people of NSW with distinction.

Appointed Queen's Counsel in 1989, in 1993 she was made a judge of the Federal Court of Australia. In 1996, she was appointed to the New South Wales Court of Appeal, subsequently becoming its President.

Her Excellency assumes the role following the departure yesterday of His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd).

Ms Berejiklian paid tribute to His Excellency and Mrs Linda Hurley for their dedication to duty and their service to the people of NSW over the past four and a half years.

"We should all be very proud and honoured that His Excellency will be our next Governor-General of Australia," Ms Berejiklian said.

"I know he will serve our nation with the same passion and dedication that he showed during his time as Governor of NSW."
