- The Director General of International Trade Negotiations, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, as Chair of Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) expressed that all G20 country delegations actively participate in the G20 Ministerial Statement preparation session which covers six priority issues. Achieving consensus in the G20 Ministerial Statement is crucial in finding solutions to overcome global economic challenges.
The statement was conveyed by Djatmiko during the opening of the 3rd TIIWG Meeting in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, on Monday (19/9). The 3rd TIIWG Meeting will be held on 19-20 September 2022.
"The main agenda of our meeting is the preparation session of the G20 Ministerial Statement on trade, investment and industry. We hope that all G20 delegates can actively contribute to the discussion of the six priority issues to accelerate economic recovery and overcome global economic challenges," said Djatmiko.
There are six priority issues to be discussed, namely the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO); the role of the multilateral trading system to bolster the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); trade, investment and industry responses to pandemics and the global health architecture; digital trade and sustainable global value chains; sustainable investment for global economic recovery; and inclusive and sustainable industrialization via industry 4.0.
Djatmiko added that the TIIWG G20 Presidency will consider all views and inputs from all G20 countries in a balanced manner and focus on a common view in all priority agendas.
"We will focus the discussion on substantial issues related to the six priority issues and hold other issues that may cause controversy for the end of our discussion. We also emphasize that it is important for the delegates to present reasons related to the recommendations for substantive changes that will be submitted later," said Djatmiko.
Previously, Djatmiko also expressed his appreciation for the contribution and participation of all delegates at the 1st and 2nd TIIWG meetings which were held in March and July of this year. "We believe the results of the TIIWG discussion can contribute to a strong, resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic recovery, and contribute to the successful implementation of Indonesia's G20 Presidency," said Djatmiko.
