$45,000 On Table For Tweed's Local Business Chambers

Tweed Shire Council

Local business just got a boost. Tweed Shire Council has opened $45,000 in annual funding for the region's 3 business chambers to support them to activate CBD precincts and deliver skills and training initiatives or campaigns that get the CBD precincts humming.

The Chamber Business Boost Fund is a 3.5-year pilot program (early 2026 - June 2029). It provides up to $15,000 per year to the region's 3 registered business chambers - Tweed Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Business Kingscliff and Business Murwillumbah - to support them to strengthen CBD precincts, build business capability and develop a thriving local economy.

Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry said the funding will help chambers deliver meaningful outcomes for their members and communities.

"Local businesses are the heart of our communities, and this program reflects Council's commitment to helping them thrive," Cr Cherry said.

"The Chamber Business Boost Fund gives chambers the confidence and resources to turn great ideas into real outcomes, connecting people, lifting capability and sparking pride across our precincts."

Chambers are required to co-contribute only 10% for each project and can use the funding for these 3 core areas of activity:

1. Precinct activations: events, expos, street festivals, seasonal pop‑ups and campaigns that draw residents and visitors into CBD precincts.

2. Networking and training: workshops, digital skills programs, climate resilience planning, financial literacy and leadership development open to all local businesses.

3. Business development: marketing campaigns, shop local promotions and initiatives that showcase local products and services.

Preference will be given to initiatives that demonstrate long term impact or incorporate sustainability, circular economy or community benefit outcomes. Projects that foster cross industry collaboration or engage under-represented groups in business activity are strongly encouraged; and all funded activities must be open to all businesses to attend (both chamber members and non-members).

The initiative is part of Council's 'Succeed in the Tweed' business and industry support programs designed to empower, connect and celebrate the local business community.

Applications will be assessed on alignment with Succeed in the Tweed program goals, relevance of the proposed activity, level of co-contribution and cross industry opportunity. A minimum 10% co-contribution is required for each application.
