$50,000 Wollongong Local Sports Grant Funds Announced

Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully, has announced that nine other sporting groups would also share in $50,000 in funding under the program.

The groups have received funding under one of four categories which includes sport access, sport development, community sport event and facility development.

Among the successful recipients, Berkeley Sports Rugby League Club will benefit from a $5000 grant towards the purchase of playing and training uniforms.

Unanderra Hearts Soccer Club will receive $9000 towards installing female change rooms and toilets at Unanderra Oval.

Western Suburbs Junior Rugby League Football Club will receive $2910 to help purchase uniforms for the female team players.

Berkeley Eagles Baseball Club has been earmarked $5000 to purchase ground cover tarps, while the Wollongong Cardinals Baseball Club will receive $2950 to purchase training shirts, a line-marking machine and baseball equipment.

Mr Scully said he was pleased to be able to recommend a spread of funding grants for projects across sporting groups in the Wollongong electorate.

“I’m particularly pleased to have recommended a number of projects for funding that focus on women’s sporting participation in our local community, which I hope will encourage more participation in their chosen sporting codes.

“I encourage all successful clubs to make sure they shop locally wherever possible to purchase equipment and uniforms, which will also help our small businesses and local jobs”, he said.

Illawarra United Representative Football Club has been awarded $5000 to host the youth girls Illawarra Gala Football Day as a community sport event.

Illawarra Dragon Boat Club will receive $1580 for coaching and first aid training while the Five Islands Outrigger Canoe Club will be able to purchase paddles and lifejackets for their junior members with a $2850 grant.
