The Community Energy Upgrades Fund Round 2 has provided $50 million to 66 local governments and councils across Australia to upgrade community facilities.
The program helps local councils to:
- lower energy bills
- cut emissions
- improve public facilities.
Funding by state and territory
The program provided funding for projects such as solar, batteries and electrification upgrades at council facilities. Funding was delivered to:
- New South Wales - $21 million
- Queensland - $4.3 million
- South Australia - $5.47 million
- Tasmania - $2.3 million
- Victoria - $10.6 million
- Western Australia - more than $5 million
- Northern Territory - more than $1 million.
Most projects include rooftop solar. Many also include battery storage. This helps councils save money and improve energy resilience.
About the program
The Community Energy Upgrades Fund matched local government funding to support projects that:
- improve energy efficiency
- increase the use of renewable energy
- reduce energy bills.
These upgrades will help Australia to reach net zero by reducing emissions from community facilities. They also support our target to reduce emissions 62-70% below 2005 levels by 2035.
