Sue Gilroy and The Nationals back youth infrastructure in Hunter

The Nationals candidate for Hunter, Sue Gilroy, has today announced a $600,000 commitment to upgrade the Greta Skate Park, delivering safer and more modern recreational space for young people and families in the region.

Ms Gilroy said the funding would address urgent safety issues and breathe new life into a well-used but outdated community asset.

"This investment will ensure Greta Skate Park is no longer left behind," Ms Gilroy said.

"Kids in our region deserve safe, high-quality facilities that encourage active lifestyles and give them pride in their community."

A 2020 audit of the Greta Skate Park found the facility to be in poor condition, with high-risk safety concerns such as cracked and chipped surfaces, poor coping tolerances, and rough concrete that could seriously injure users. The park currently lacks basic amenities, shade, seating and connectivity to footpaths.

"This funding will go towards rebuilding key features of the park to modern standards, improving accessibility, and adding vital elements like seating, shade and safer surfaces," Ms Gilroy said.

"It's about giving local young people a space that's not only fun to use but safe and welcoming."

The $600,000 commitment is part of The Nationals' broader plan to invest in grassroots infrastructure and support active, connected communities across the Hunter.

"I've listened to local parents and young people who are crying out for better facilities. This is exactly the kind of practical support our communities need and I'll keep fighting to deliver it."
