605 Less Victims As CLP Government Reduces Crime

Today's crime statistics show the Finocchiaro CLP Government's strong law and order agenda is working, with fewer Territorians becoming victims of crime in the last six months.

Between January and June 2025, the number of victims fell by 4.7% compared to the same period in 2024. That's 605 fewer people affected by crime across the Territory.

In the first half of 2025 alone, house break-ins have dropped by 375 and total property offences by 503.

The drop is being felt across the Territory, with house break-ins down 37% in Darwin and Palmerston, 33% in Alice Springs, and commercial break-ins in Katherine down 36% in the first six months of 2025.

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said Territorians deserve to feel safe in their homes, at work, in their neighbourhoods and at the shops.

"Our plan to reduce crime is working, but my team and I know there is much more work to do, and we are getting on with the job.

"We will continue to work with police, courts and corrections to deliver stronger laws and enforcement, better victim support, and faster justice.

"Community safety will always come first under our CLP government," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

"Tackling the root causes of crime and driving down domestic and child sexual violence remains a priority. The DFSV Prevention and Response Roadmap will ensure every dollar is invested strategically to deliver real change and strengthen community safety."

"As we enter our second year of government, our focus is clear - get more kids to school, hold parents accountable, and create productive pathways for young people. Addressing these drivers is critical to reducing crime and building safer communities."

"Under Labor, police were left to clean up the mess of failed social policies, arresting the same offenders night after night. Crime spiralled, communities suffered, and offenders knew there were no consequences.

"The CLP is changing that, and our reforms are delivering results," Mrs Finocchiaro said.

The CLP Government will keep driving crime down, with 146 new police joining since August 2024, the rollout of OC spray beginning next month and a new triple-0 communications centre in Central Australia later this year as well as a targeted new stream of Police Public Safety Officers to tackle anti-social behaviour.

"Labor's offender-first model has scarred our community, but Territorians can count on the CLP Government to put the rights of victims and the community ahead of offenders and their apologists," Mrs Finocchiaro said.
