81-year-old man critically injured after Merrylands crash

An elderly man remains in a critical condition after being hit by a car at Merrylands in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 5pm (Saturday 14 September 2019), emergency services were called to Fowler Road in Merrylands West after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

Inquiries suggest the car, a Volkswagen Golf driven by a 21-year-old man, might have hit a parked car on Fowler Road prior to hitting the pedestrian.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and a crime scene was established.

An 84-year-old Merrylands man was treated at the scene for a head injury before being taken to hospital.

The 21-year-old man was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are continuing their inquiries into the events leading up to the crash.

Investigators are interested in hearing from anyone who might have seen the Volkswagen travelling along Kenyons and Fowler roads before the crash.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
