A Bigger, Better Recreation Reserve For Ballan

Families in Ballan will be able to rely on great local sporting facilities, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver $3 million towards a major redevelopment of the Ballan Recreation Reserve.

Right now, despite record levels of female participation and new families moving to the area, the facilities at Ballan Recreation Reserve are failing to keep up.

Funding from a re-elected Labor Government will see the construction of a brand-new sporting pavilion, including female friendly changerooms, and an extension of the oval, bringing the field size up to the required standard for senior footy and creating a playing space big enough for two soccer fields.

While visiting the Reserve today, Treasurer Tim Pallas also announced that Labor’s investment will also go towards the installation of 100 lux lights at the oval, allowing for night training and games.

The upgraded Reserve will be utilised by local sporting clubs, with the Ballan football, netball, cricket, tennis and bowls clubs all set to benefit.

With these upgrades from a re-elected Labor Government, local clubs – and this local community – will have the great sporting facilities they deserve.

The commitment builds on the Andrews Labor Government’s investments in local community sports including upgrades to the existing netball courts at Ballan Reserve and the installation of competition grade lighting, announced earlier this year.

While the Liberals cut funding for hospitals and schools, and closed TAFE campuses – only Labor will invest in the projects our community really needs.

The Labor Government has made the biggest investment in grassroots sporting opportunities in Victoria’s history, with $420 million dedicated to community sports.

As stated by Treasurer Tim Pallas

"By bringing the oval up to the size required for senior footy, we’ll make sure Ballan’s local clubs keep kicking goals."

"Community sport is really about community spirit. With this investment, we’ll help make Ballan’s sporting clubs, and local community, stronger than ever."

As stated by Minister for Sport John Eren

"Ballan is a proud and strong local community – and it deserves local sporting facilities too match."

"From cheering on the mighty Ballan Blues or a kick to kick with the kids on the weekend, this upgrade will make a big difference for local families."
