A breath of fresh air at our Parks and Reserves

Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security

Visitors to popular Top End Parks and Reserves can breathe easy, with the roll out of more smoke-free zones from 1 January 2021.

The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security will continue to support a family-friendly environment by excluding smoking around selected waterholes at Litchfield National Park.

This follows the introduction of smoke-free zones at Berry Springs Nature Park and Howard Springs Nature Park in November, which have been welcomed by visitors.

Signs and maps will inform visitors of the smoke-free zones, with Rangers conducting regular patrols to remind people of the new rules.

Smoking is still permitted outside of the smoke-free zones.

Quotes by Executive Director of Parks and Wildlife, Sally Egan

"This move to develop dedicated smoke-free areas at Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole and Wangi Falls will bring our Parks and Reserves in line with public expectations."

"We've received really positive feedback following the introduction of smoke-free areas, particularly at Howard Springs, so it's great to implement the zones at another family-orientated location.

"We want visitors to be able to enjoy a healthy, safe and family friendly environment and make the most of the Territory's clean, fresh air."
