A man and woman charged after a vehicle stop at Broken Hill

A man and woman have been charged with firearm and drug offences following a vehicle search in the state's far west.

About 6.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 April 2020), officers attached to Barrier Police District were patrolling the streets of Broken Hill, where they stopped a silver Holden Sedan on Patton Lane, Broken Hill.

Police received information that the occupants of the vehicle were wanted for an alleged home invasion in South Australia.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle, locating and seizing cannabis, ammunition, and a shortened firearm.

The man and woman, both aged 40, were arrested and taken to Broken Hill Police Station.

The woman was charged with possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority and possess shortened firearm without authority.

The man was charged with possess shortened firearm without authority, possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, possess prohibited drug and custody of knife in public place.

Both were refused bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday 21 April 2020.
