A million reasons fans come first at NRL Brisbane Magic Round

First there was the magic and now there is the money.

The NRL officially launched the Youi Million Dollar Kick in Brisbane today, with one superfan from each NRL Telstra Premiership club and a Youi customer being given the chance to kick to win $1 million.

The Youi Million Dollar Kick will take place on the Wednesday 8th of May at King George Square in Brisbane in front of a live crowd, with each club's superfan electing to either kick for the million dollars themselves or have a club representative to kick on their behalf.

It's just one of the many fan first initiatives the NRL, in partnership with the Queensland Government (through Tourism and Events Queensland) and Brisbane City Council (through Brisbane Marketing), has put in place for the history-making Premiership Round.

"There's now a million more reasons for fans to get involved in NRL Brisbane Magic Round," NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said.

"The Youi Million Dollar kick is a huge part of launching into the round in the right way by giving some of the game's superfans the chance to kick for $1 million.

"It's another part of our fan-first approach to the weekend with several opportunities to meet players, head to training sessions and enjoy the fantastic hospitality the city of Brisbane always puts on for visitors."

Council's Public and Active Transport Chair Ryan Murphy said Brisbane would get to witness magic in just a few short weeks with the NRL Magic Round bringing a jam-packed weekend of footy and off the field activities to the city.

"NRL Magic Round Brisbane will be an event like no other, with a major national sporting competition playing an entire round in the one city - cementing our city's reputation as a destination for blockbuster sport," Cr Murphy said.

"To make it even easier for residents and visitors to get to and from each of the matches, ticket holders can let someone else do the driving with free transport on buses and trains to and from Suncorp Stadium.

"The Million Dollar Kick events will be just one of the many events and community activations to take place off the field, and will help to create a festival atmosphere in the week leading up to the NRL Magic Round Brisbane.

"We're expecting fans will come from far and wide to be a part of Rugby League Mecca, and the Million Dollar Kick is giving a superfan from each club the chance to experience the Magic in Brisbane.

"Hosting the NRL Magic Round is a win for Brisbane. This will be a truly memorable experience which provides more to see and do in Brisbane, and we welcome this new and exciting event to our city's rich calendar of events."

NRL players Corey Oates, Jamayne Isaako, Ryan James and Jai Arrow joined officials from Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council and a handful of junior league participants to kick-off the campaign at King George Square.
