A tranquil place to enjoy a yarn and appreciate ecology - our future Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve

A yarning circle, bird hides, boardwalks, and a horse riding hitching post are all featured within the Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve Landscape Plan.

The Landscape Plan for this bushland reserve will be available for viewing at two information sessions in Peregian Springs on Thursday March 28 and Monday April 1.

Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson encouraged local residents to attend an information session and learn more about this reserve's environmental values and its importance in further reinforcing the Sunshine Coast Council's healthy, smart, creative vision.

"Our community provided input to the management of this beautiful reserve through community engagement and consultation in 2015 shortly after the reserve was purchased through the Environment Levy, again when detailed planning was underway in early 2018, and now we can come together to review the next steps," Cr Robinson said.

"Community workshops helped guide decision making for the Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve, and several values were identified, including establishing a place of tranquility, observation and education.

"This landscape plan's purpose is to guide the future planning of the reserve for public access and education, and to ensure environmental values are protected.

"The plan includes a great oversight of our vision and values for the reserve, along with thorough analysis of the site's flora, fauna, and land use history.

"I'm particularly pleased with the preservation and education plans for the more than 70 endangered, vulnerable and near threatened species currently found in the reserve.

"What I believe most residents will find interesting is the planned landscape concepts, including a yarning circle, bird watching sites, and an educational zone, which will help create a place of stories for the community."

All community members are welcome to visit two information sessions and take time to review the Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve Landscape Plan. These information sessions will be held on:

  • Thursday March 28 from 3-4.30pm at the Peregian Springs Coles shopping centre forecourt

  • Monday April 1 from 1.30-4pm at the Peregian Springs Golf Club.
