ABC Boyer Lectures delayed due to COVID-19

The ABC has announced the 2020 Boyer Lectures to be delivered by philanthropist and business leader Dr Andrew Forrest AO will be delayed due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions and border closures.

The four-part lecture series - "Rebooting Australia: How ethical entrepreneurs can help shape a better future" - was scheduled to be broadcast on ABC Radio National from 28 November this year.

The radio broadcast and a live television recording in Perth of one of the lectures will now take place in January, with dates to be confirmed.

ABC Chair Ita Buttrose AC OBE said the decision had been a difficult one but was appropriate due to the ongoing pandemic and public health restrictions.

"The ABC Boyer Lectures, now in their 62nd year, are a significant event on the ABC calendar and I am disappointed we will need to wait a little bit longer to hear Dr Forrest's thoughts and views on an interesting range of issues," Ms Buttrose said.

"However, we want to ensure this significant event receives the support and audience it deserves, and we look forward to releasing a new broadcast and event schedule as soon as possible."

The ABC Boyer Lectures are broadcast on ABC RN over four weeks and will be available on podcast via the ABC listen app. One of the lectures is also broadcast on ABC TV.

The Boyer Lectures, which began in 1959, are given each year by a prominent Australian about major social, cultural, scientific or political issues. Prime Ministers, Governors-General, High Court judges, archbishops, artists, poets, scientists and business leaders are among those who have shared their ideas and concerns over the past six decades.
