"The Australian Industry Group welcomes the release of the ACCC's Final Report to the Australian Government on its Digital Platforms Inquiry," Ai Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said today.

"We will consider the report in greater detail in close consultation with our members. Given the growing engagement across the business community with every business having the capability of becoming a digital business or platform, we are particularly focussed on the implications for the broader cross-section of Australian businesses.

"In this context, any proposal about digital platforms, including changes to existing laws and regulations or the creation of new regulation, should be rigorously reviewed and properly consulted on. This consultation should include an assessment of the costs and benefits of regulatory or legislative change. We are particularly mindful of the risks of unintended consequences for businesses and the community as seen with the recent Anti-Encryption Legislation.

"Ai Group and our members look forward to working closely with policy makers, governments and regulators as the report's recommendations are fully considered," Mr Willox said.
