Background
The Cash Acceptance Industry Codes commenced on 1 January 2026 and include 2 mandatory industry codes. The codes require certain supermarket and motor fuel retail sites to allow customers a reasonable opportunity to pay in cash between the hours of 7 am and 9 pm for in person payments of $500 or less. Some exceptions apply. The codes do not apply to any other industries.
A retailer is not required to comply with the codes at retail sites that are subject to an exemption. See more information about exceptions to the Cash Acceptance Industry Codes.
