ACMA Finds Magic FM Breached Licence Condition

narrowcast

The licensee for New South Wales-based radio station Magic 87.6 FM has been found in breach of its licence conditions by broadcasting content in contravention of narrowcast service rules.

Magic 87.6 FM holds licences to provide open narrowcasting services in Mudgee, Gulgong and Kandos.

Narrowcasting licences are issued for the purpose of niche broadcasting and must be limited in some way, such as being targeted to special interest groups or being provided for a limited period of time or for a special event.

The ACMA investigation found that Magic 87.6 FM was broadcasting music programming, news and weather bulletins and live hosted programs that would likely appeal to a general audience in the broadcast area.
