A new Chief Engineer will support the ACT Government's efforts to implement our $2.8 billion infrastructure pipeline to meet the needs of our growing city.
Mr Adrian Piani will fill the role as Chief Engineer, providing strategic advice on projects including stage 2 of the city wide light rail network, upgrades at the Canberra Hospital precinct and the capital works program in ACT schools.
The appointment of a Chief Engineer is an ACT Labor election commitment, and Mr Piani comes as a highly regarded engineer and consultant in the ACT.
The appointment of a Chief Engineer is part of the Government's commitment to ensuring an innovative and skilled engineering workforce in the ACT, as well as having strategic infrastructure planning and processes in place for the future of Canberra.
Mr Piani has extensive experience in the ACT, working on a range of infrastructure projects and initiatives and will bring a fresh strategic perspective to the role. He comes to the Government with a wealth of experience in the private sector, in particular as the Canberra Area Manager for AECOM.
This appointment is a joint role of Chief Engineer and Executive Group Manager Infrastructure, Finance and Capital Works. There are strong connections and opportunities by combining these roles and embedding the Chief Engineer in the ACT Public Service.
The Chief Engineer will liaise closely with the Government Architect, Catherine Townsend, the various peak engineering bodies who have strongly advocated for the role including Consult Australia, Engineers Australia and Professionals Australia, as well as other key stakeholders.
