A new public dashboard from ACT Corrective Services will make it easier to see and understand detainee population numbers and trends over time.
Available on the ACT Government website, the dashboard provides clear and accessible information about the custodial population at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), supporting greater transparency and accountability across the justice system.
The dashboard provides automated monthly updates on the average daily custodial population, as well as receptions into custody and releases from custody. Data can be viewed over time and filtered by key characteristics such as legal status, gender and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status.
The initiative responds to recommendations from reviews calling for ACT justice agencies to improve public reporting of data‑driven outcomes and make information easier for the community to access and understand.
ACT Corrective Services Commissioner Leanne Close said the dashboard will give Canberrans a better understanding of custodial trends by bringing important information together in one place.
"This dashboard brings together information that has previously been published across a range of reports and formats and presents it in one clear, accessible place.
"Our focus is on presenting clear numbers that accurately reflect the make-up of people in our custody in an accessible, timely way. Improving how we share information supports better understanding of the corrections system and helps guide service improvement and reform."
The public dashboard builds on internal and stakeholder data products developed by ACT Corrective Services as part of a broader investment in data capability and innovation.
Additional metrics and data products are expected to be added over time as part of a staged approach to public reporting.
The dashboard is available on the ACT Government website at https://www.act.gov.au/open/act-corrective-services-data-dashboard.
