Act now to prepare for fire season

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has announced Wyndham City will enter a fire danger period on 9 January 2023.

During this period, there is an increased risk of fire and restrictions come into place. Information on these restrictions is available via the CFA, www.cfa.vic.gov.au/can

It is also important to take steps now to protect your home and property from the threat of fire. Wyndham City urges all residents to make sure they have a plan.

To stay safe this fire season, residents should act now to:

  • Clear green waste and debris from your property. This includes cutting grass and weeds.
  • Clear your roof and gutters and remove flammable material from around your property, including items like wood and gas tanks.

Residents can access three hard and green waste collections each year and exchange their Refuse Disposal Facility (RDF) waste disposal vouchers for additional green waste collections.

Wyndham City asks residents to take note of the new fire danger rating system and create an evacuation plan for their household.

If a fire starts, residents living near grasslands should walk at least two streets back. Do not drive, as visibility may be poor, and you could block emergency services.

Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said: "By acting now, you can help protect your home and property during this fire season. Be informed and ready to act in an emergency for your safety and the safety of our whole community."
