ACT Youth Week (13-24 April 2026) is now underway, with free events for young people over ten days.
Minister for Children, Youth and Families, Michael Pettersson MLA, said ACT Youth Week was a chance for young people to try new things, meet new people, and be inspired by their peers.
"Young Canberrans are accomplishing amazing things every day. In my job, I see the real difference young people make to the lives of others. ACT Youth Week is a chance for our whole community to recognise and celebrate their contribution to our community." Minister Pettersson said.
"I also know that life isn't always easy for young people. Social isolation and disengagement is a growing problem."
"I want to help more young people get involved in community life, and ACT Youth Week is a great time to do that."
The ACT Government has awarded ACT Youth Week Grants of up to $2,000 to several local organisations for youth-led projects that strengthen community connections, promote diversity and encourage young people to develop their skills.
Some of the ACT Youth Week Grant-funded events include:
- Kooky Olympics – hosted by Multicultural Hub Canberra, this event is open to all young people and families. Enjoy cultural games and challenges, a chill out space, a DJ booth and more. Wednesday 15 April, 2.30pm-4.30pm, at Gungahlin Town Park (Gozzard Street), Gungahlin.
- Creativity Con 2026 – a platform for young people to showcase their creative projects, including visual art, music and performance. Enjoy a free sausage sizzle, live music, craft workshops, clothes swap, and more. Thursday 16 April, 2–5pm, at Mura Lanyon Youth & Community Centre.

Quotes attributable to ACT Youth Advisory Council member Princess Kisakye:
"To me, Youth Week is about recognising the powerful impact young people have within our communities, not only in speaking up about the issues that affect them, but in actively striving to turn their voices into meaningful, positive change. Ensuring that the right resources and support programs are available, and that young people are genuinely listened to, is essential to understanding their experiences and empowering their contributions. Happy Youth Week."
