A 20-member delegation from Jilin Province, led by Mr Qiu Jiang, President of the Jilin Overseas Friendship Association, visited The University of Hong Kong (HKU) today (August 27). Professor Xiaobo Yin, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global) of HKU, along with HKU faculty and staff representatives, welcomed the delegation. Both parties held in-depth discussions on advancing cooperation in higher education, technological innovation, industry-academia knowledge exchange, academic exchange, and cultural development.
During the visit, the delegation toured HKU's historic Main Building before convening for a roundtable discussion. During the session, Professor Xiaobo Yin introduced HKU's latest research breakthroughs, global engagement strategies, and knowledge exchange initiatives.
Professor Xiaobo Yin remarked, "HKU boasts world-class faculty and research capabilities, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration with Jilin Province. Beyond joint research in remote sensing, space exploration, and Chinese medicine, we aim to expand youth talent and cultural exchanges, encouraging HKU faculty and students to experience Jilin's vitality firsthand. By leveraging HKU's global innovation network, we can integrate our research outcomes with Jilin's strong industrial base for mutual benefit."
Mr Qiu Jiang noted, "Jilin Province and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region possess immense potential for collaboration, driven by our highly complementary strengths. We look forward to partnering with HKU to build bilateral talent pipelines, establish joint research platforms, create vehicles for technology transfer, and deepen our shared cultural ties. We warmly welcome Vice-President Professor Xiaobo Yin, as well as experts, scholars, and young friends, to visit Jilin to explore deeper synergies. We look forward to harnessing this visit as an opportunity to elevate Jilin–Hong Kong collaboration in science and education to new heights, jointly contributing to the building of a leading country in education, technology, and talent."
Other HKU representatives attending the discussion included Professor Jiangang Shen, Associate Director of the HKUMed Centre of Integrative Medicine; Professor Nicholas X. Fang, Chair Professor of Photonics Innovation; Professor Weiming Zhu, Assistant Dean of HKU Business School; and Mr Wang Feng, Director of Communications and Public Affairs. They presented the University's outstanding research strengths and latest achievements in frontier fields—such as integrative medicine and biotechnology, photonics and advanced manufacturing, and executive education and information management—along with the latest developments in the University's communication and publicity strategies.
