Families have plenty of opportunities to keep kids active and entertained these autumn school holidays, with Cairns Regional Council offering a range of free and low-cost activities across the region.
The School Holiday Program caters to all ages, with a mix of outdoor adventures, creative workshops and community activities.
The following popular locations have recently reopened or been upgraded:
- The Red Arrow walking track in the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct has undergone renewal works to strengthen the track. The 1.3km loop is suitable for a range of fitness levels.
- Lake Placid has reopened following restoration works, providing a scenic spot for families to visit.
A variety of organised programs are also available across the region including:

- Tanks Arts Centre is hosting hands-on workshops introducing young people to film production through interactive and creative activities.
- Cairns Libraries are running their popular free sessions, including Youth Open Mic, Hero Squad, Twist & Shout Rubik's Cube Challenge, and Roar into 3D.
- Active Living programs include Youth Multi Sports in White Rock, beach volleyball at the Cairns Esplanade, and Aqua Zumba sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Learn to Colour sessions will be held at Smithfield Shopping Centre with local artist Cindy Wider on Friday 10 and Wednesday 15 April.
