The Crisafulli Government is restoring safety where you live by partnering with local councils to deliver safer, more secure business precincts across Queensland.

Under Round 2 of the $40 million Secure Communities Partnership Program, eligible councils can apply for up to two projects worth up to $400,000 each to protect small businesses, and their staff, from crime and economic losses.

The funding is part of the Crisafulli Government's plan to end Labor's soft-on-crime approach following a decade of spiraling crime and failing to support the growing number of small and family businesses across Queensland.

Funding can be used on projects including:

  • physical infrastructure upgrades (environmental design and landscaping for security, bollards, lighting)
  • perimeter and property defence improvements (outdoor security and sensor lighting, secure fencing and other visible deterrents)
  • surveillance and alarm systems (intruder/trespasser alarms, CCTV, motion sensors and video recording).

The additional funding from the Crisafulli Government builds on the success of Round 1 which delivered $9.6 million for 42 crime prevention projects across Queensland, including 35 initiatives in regional business precincts.

Round 2 of the program also includes $2 million for eligible small and family businesses to apply directly for grants to implement their own crime prevention measures.

Minister for Small and Family Business Steve Minnikin said the Crisafulli Government was making Queensland safer by supporting small and family businesses and their staff.

"Round 2 of the Secure Communities Partnership Program will build on the success of the first round, delivering even more opportunities for councils to implement critical safety upgrades that deter crime and protect local small and family businesses," Minister Minnikin said.

"When small businesses are safe, they can focus on what they do best, serving their communities, creating jobs, and driving our economy forward.

"We're here to make sure we are delivering on the promise of giving them the security they need to grow and prosper."

Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said round 2 of the Secure Communities Partnership Program was giving councils the resources they need to make local business precincts safer for everyone.

"This $8 million funding boost builds on the success of Round 1 and demonstrates the Crisafulli Government's commitment to supporting small and family business and driving practical safety outcomes with the support of local councils," Minister Leahy said.

"By funding projects like improved lighting, CCTV, and secure fencing, we are helping protect small and family businesses, their staff, and the communities they serve."

Member for Townsville Adam Baillie said the funding from Round 1 was delivering important safety initiatives for local small and family businesses with Round 2 offering more opportunities to boost safety.

"The funding we received through Round 1 of the Secure Communities Partnership Program has delivered CCTV cameras in the heart of Townsville so we can create a safer CBD for visitors, locals, small business owners and their staff," Mr Baillie said.

Member for Mundingburra Janelle Poole said Round 2 presented an exciting opportunity for the Crisafulli Government and councils to work together to invest in initiatives that make communities safer and support the growth of small businesses.

"The Secure Communities Partnership Program is an important part of the Crisafulli Government's plan to improve safety for small businesses, their staff and their customers."
