His Honour Professor the Honourable Hugh Heggie AO PSM, Administrator of the Northern Territory, will commence a series of farewell visits across the Northern Territory and interstate, ahead of the conclusion of his term on 30 January 2026.
The farewell tour begins in Katherine from 12 to 14 November, where His Honour will visit RAAF Base Tindal in his capacity as Honorary Air Commodore of No. 17 Squadron. His Honour is the first NT Administrator to be appointed to this role and will be honoured with a farewell parade. He also holds the distinction of being the first to serve as Honorary Air Commodore of both No. 17 (RAAF Base Tindal) Squadron and No. 13 (City of Darwin) Squadron.
During his time in Katherine, His Honour will also tour Katherine Hospital and host a farewell function to personally thank the community for their support and engagement throughout his tenure. At the event, His Honour will present two Seniors of Excellence Awards.
Following Katherine, His Honour will travel to Alice Springs for a final residency from 18 to 21 November, undertaking a range of community and patronage visits. The residency will conclude with a community reception to thank and celebrate the contributions of the Barkly and Central Australian communities.
His Honour will then travel to Sydney for a final meeting with Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, before returning to Darwin to complete his term as Administrator.
These farewell visits mark a significant moment of reflection and gratitude, as His Honour acknowledges the people and places that have shaped his time in office.
His Honour said: "It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve the people of the Northern Territory as their Administrator. These visits are an opportunity for me to say thank you, to Territorians, for their warmth, resilience, and unwavering spirit before I leave office. I committed to fulfil this role with compassion and love for Territorians, and for this vast and beautiful Territory that we all call home. I commit to conclude my term with this same spirit."
