Advancing National Cloud Computing Policy In Libya

On 30 December, ESCWA and the General Information Authority (GIA) in Libya organized a hybrid consultative workshop to discuss the draft national cloud computing policy for the country and gather inputs from public institutions ahead of its official adoption.

The workshop was attended by representatives from public institutions involved in the development and implementation of digital projects and initiatives. It highlighted the key impacts of cloud computing, discussed the current draft of the national policy, and presented selected examples of relevant national policies.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of adopting a "cloud first" approach while ensuring the protection of sensitive datasets. It also underscored the need to establish a national data classification system to reduce risks during cloud migration, prioritize trust and compliance standards, and strengthen national information technology capacities to support sustainable and secure cloud implementation.
