Advice to Members

New Zealand is changing alert levels, Auckland to Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand to Level 2, following three positive cases of COVID-19 in the community.

For all official government information about this development see here.

The Auckland region will move to Alert Level 3 from 11.59pm tonight, Sunday 14th February, for the next three days until midnight Wednesday 17th February. Alert Level 3 means stay home, business must be contactless, travel is restricted, and schools will be closed (except for children of essential workers). The geographic boundary is that of the Auckland Super City.

At Alert Level 3, some businesses and services can operate under the required public health measures, but there are restrictions on the businesses that can operate with customers on their premises. For more see here. In December 2020 the settings for businesses and services at Alert Level 3 were updated to:

  • Provide that contactless pick-up be permitted to take place within malls, outside individual stores rather than outside the mall itself; and
  • Allow butchers, fishmongers and greengrocers to operate on the same basis as supermarkets and dairies – i.e. with customers on their premises.

The rest of New Zealand will move to Alert Level 2 and this will run through till midnight on Wednesday 17th February. This means social distancing measures will apply. Mass gatherings are limited to 100 people. All other guidance about Level 2 will apply. Mask use is required on public transport, and encouraged in public places.
