Council continues to advocate for vital road infrastructure projects in growth areas Drouin and Warragul having recently hosted a meeting with key State Government roads representatives.

Held in Drouin on Friday 29 November, the meeting was attended by Mayor Cr Danny Goss, Deputy Mayor Cr Peter Kostos, Cr Mikaela Power, Cr Keith Cook, CEO Alison Leighton, Jeroen Weimar Head of Transport Services at Department of Transport (CEO Public Transport Victoria/VicRoads), Pas Monacella, Manager Planning at Regional Roads Victoria, and Sara Rhodes-Ward, Eastern Victoria Region Director at Regional Roads Victoria.

High on the agenda was the mounting pressure on the existing main arterial road network managed by Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) as a result of unprecedented growth in Drouin and Warragul.

Council used the opportunity to update RRV on current and future growth forecasts, discuss local traffic issues and check the status of identified priority road projects including:

  • A bypass to relieve traffic congestion and divert heavy vehicles from the Drouin town centre.

  • Duplication of Princes Way between Warragul and Drouin.

  • Upgrading the Warragul freeway interchange (Warragul-Korumburra Road and Landsborough Road roundabout).

  • Introducing a controlled intersection at Princes Way and Wellwood Road in Drouin.

  • These projects have been formally identified by both Council and RRV as critical road projects in need of funding and support by the State Government.
